# Screen an aircraft

> Screen an aircraft by registration, serial number or Mode S code

Screens an aircraft by its **registration** (tail number), **manufacturer's serial number** or **Mode S transponder code** against the enabled lists that publish aircraft identifiers — today the US OFAC SDN list, which designates several hundred aircraft by registration, serial number and transponder code. Use it before leasing, servicing, fuelling, insuring or financing an aircraft.

**identifier** `string` *required*

A registration (`EP-GOL`), serial number or Mode S code (`140AE7`). Punctuation, spaces and case are ignored — `EP-GOL`, `ep gol` and `EPGOL` are the same.

**lists** `string`

Comma-separated [list slugs](https://docs.compliapi.com/api/screen/lists.md) to screen against (default: all enabled lists).

Matching is exact. Each match's `metadata` carries `kind` — `registration`, `previous_registration`, `serial` or `mode_s` — and, where the list gives one, the aircraft `model`; the response is the shared [screening envelope](https://docs.compliapi.com/api/screen.md).

Serial numbers shorter than six characters are not screened: short manufacturer and construction numbers repeat across manufacturers, so an unrelated airframe would match. Check the `model` on any serial-number match.
